Job Description

Alison Hume, MP for Scarborough & Whitby, is looking for a Digital Content & Communications Officer, to be based in Scarborough, who excels in the creation and amplification of digital and social media content, understands political campaigns and is motivated to help Team Alison engage effectively with her constituents.

Professional experience of creating and editing short films (30 seconds to 2 minutes) is essential. To include graphic design skills, with the successful candidate able to create and update a suite of social media graphics.

You will need to establish and develop appropriate strategies for multiple social media platforms, informed by evidence and to meet specific local objectives.

Content will include:

  • Promoting Alison’s work in the constituency and amplifying campaigns in Scarborough & Whitby
  • Video content summarising key debates and speeches in parliament and how it impacts local people
  • Promoting Alison’s local engagements and driving attendance at events like coffee mornings
  • Responsibility for managing the website, which is to be frequently updated with a broad range of content
  • Supporting the MP in drafting and distributing press releases and a regular e-newsletter, agreeing on targets for increasing its reach to local people every month
  • Support Alison and the Senior Communications Manager on engagement with broadcast and print media
  • Assisting the team with setting up diary events/visits
  • Accompanying the MP to events/visits to capture content

  • Exceptional organisational skills and ability to utilise systems and processes to prioritise tasks effectively and efficiently
  • Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to producing work that is precise and error-free
  • Outstanding written and verbal skills
  • Flexible, adaptable and calm in the face of a complex and dynamic workload

There will be a requirement for the role holder to work fairly often on a Saturday morning, with TOIL and flexibility given throughout the week.
